Question: I would like to hire the Orca String Quartet for my wedding ceremony. What can I expect?

Answer: Typically, the musicians start playing about 30 minutes prior to your ceremony, so the guests are greeted by the inviting sounds of music. Once the ceremony begins, we play processional music for the arrival of the wedding party. This can be one or a few pieces according to your preference. We then play gentle music during the signing of the registry or lighting of the candles, and a joyous recessional as you depart. We can then play cheerful music as you and your guests mingle and celebrate.

Question: Can you offer another size group other than quartet?

Answer: Yes. Although nothing beats the full and rich sound of the traditional string quartet, we also offer the Orca String Trio comprised of two violins and a cello. This is appropriate if you have less space or a limited budget.

Question: What instruments do you play?

Answer: The traditional string quartet consists of two violins, one viola, and one cello. This is the most prominent chamber ensemble in classical music, with the versatility to handle nearly any repertoire with beautiful harmony.

Question: I don't know what music should be played at my event. Can you suggest something?

Answer: Certainly! If you need some assistance in music selection, you can leave that to our tasteful expertise. If you have any specific favourites, we are happy to oblige your requests as our repertoire allows.

Question: Will you take music requests?

Answer: Yes! We have an extensive repertoire list, but we can also consider requests. If it is not in our collection, we can add it for a fee.

Question: Do you perform outdoors?

Answer: Yes! We only require appropriate shelter, in order to protect our instruments from extreme temperatures, wind, rain and direct sunlight. An open sided tent or other similar shelter is excellent. We cannot play directly under trees because of the danger of pitch or other debris falling on our instruments. Please advise us at time of booking if you will be having an outdoor event.

Question: What do the musicians wear?

Answer: The men wear tuxedos and the women wear black formal attire.

Question: Are you able to accompany someone else?

Answer: Yes! We can play with a friend, relative or another musician provided that there is string quartet music available for the pieces being performed. It is generally recommended that you book an extra half hour of our time for rehearsal of this, scheduled just before your guests start arriving.

Question: What if my event is not in Vancouver?

Answer: We can travel to many locations. For a venue situated outside of the Greater Vancouver area, there is an additional travel fee.

Question: How much does it cost to hire the Orca String Quartet?

Answer: We offer competitive rates for the Lower Mainland market.

The rates vary according to the length of your event, whether you would like to hire our quartet or trio, and whether travel expenses are appropriate. We'd be happy to give a detailed quote. Please contact us:

Question: What if any of the musicians is unable to be at my event?
